

Velma Laverne (Janosky) Slaughter, of Freeport, passed away Friday, October 26, 2012 in Clute, Texas. Velma was a longtime resident of the Freeport area and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Freeport. She volunteered at the local elementary schools and worked in Real Estate, but her greatest achievement was being a wonderful mother and homemaker to her husband and children, as well as a kind a caring sister and friend. She is survived by her children, Debie Hansen and her husband Ray of Knoxville, Tennessee, Harold Kim Slaughter and his wife Rhonda of Spring, Texas; grandchildren, Dustin Slaughter, Matthew Hansen; great grandson, Nalin Hixon; sisters Carol Nevill of Freeport, Texas, and Doris Weber of Everett, Washington; brother, Dale Janosky and his wife Charlotte of League City, Texas; sister-in-law, Louise Slaughter of Brazoria; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sophie (Hilderbrandt) and Eddie T. Janosky; husband, Harold (Kip) Slaughter; granddaughter, Mandy Hansen; niece, Robi Weber Stratton; nephew, Larry Weber. Family will receive friends 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday, October 29, 2012 at the Restwood Funeral Home. Private entombment services will be in the Restwood Memorial Park.
