Lois Hawkins Lipe

Lois Lipe, 95 passed away peacefully in her home with her family at her bedside in Coalinga, California on Wednesday, July 22, 2015. She was born to Velmar & Zelma Hawkins on March 30, 1920 in Chismville, Arkansas at their family’s home. She was raised with three younger brothers; Gene, Raymond & Richard Hawkins.

Lois married the love of her life; Joseph Marcellus Lipe and together they had two children; Joe Allen & Billie Sue Lipe. She was a homemaker all her life; however she worked various jobs, waitressing, volunteering and most known for being a cook for the cafeteria and snack bar at West Hills College in Coalinga, California. She loved to sew, read, and go rock hunting and especially volunteering for a special cause she was passionate about. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, the Presbyterian Church and she also was a longtime volunteer at the Coalinga Thrift Store. She had received several awards over the years for all of her time and dedication to her community for volunteering. Once she retired she enjoyed making trips back to Arkansas, going on rock hunting trips and trips with the senior’s group.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; Velmar & Zelma Hawkins and her husband; Joseph Lipe and her brothers; Gene, Raymond & Richard Hawkins.

Lois is survived by her loving children; Joe Allen & his wife Peggy of Santa Margarita and Billie Sue of Modesto, California. She will always be cherished by her 7 grandchildren; Donna Lipe, Kevin Prevett, Robert Prevett, Chris Prevett, Judy Martin, Sherrie Martin and Carolyn Martin along with 8 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-great-grandchild.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at Pleasant Valley Cemetery; 40054 Calaveras Avenue, Coalinga, CA 93210
