Aileen’s Story
How do we say goodbye to one who touched our soul so deeply? It is once in a lifetime that someone like Aileen comes along—a woman whose love knew no bounds, whose generosity had no limits, and whose life was a testament to the power of selfless devotion. Though we must say farewell, her legacy of love will live in the hearts of all who knew her.
Aileen the Daughter: Aileen Matthews—Jen, Jenny, Aunt Jen—beloved daughter of Claudius and Stella Campbell Moxam, was born on June 22, 1937, in Ashton district, Westmoreland, Jamaica. The only girl among five boys, Aileen became the matriarch of her family whose love knew no bounds. After attending Ashton Elementary School, she worked at London Shop and Hope Gardens Zoo in Jamaica. On June 21, 1967, Aileen emigrated to the United States, becoming the first in her family to make the journey. She worked at New York Telephone Company (Bell Atlantic) before retiring in December 2001.
Aileen the Mother and Sister: Though having no biological children, Aileen was a mother to many—siblings, nieces, nephews, friends, and even her pastor. She loved fiercely, provided selflessly, and treated those she mothered with equal devotion. To her biological siblings-even those older-she deemed it her sacred responsibility to care for them.
Aileen the Wife and Friend: On September 1, 1991, Aileen married Albert Matthews. Together they retired to Cocoa, Florida, on December 21, 1991, where she volunteered with Meals on Wheels and enjoyed making pottery. Aileen was a true giver and loyal friend. Whatever she bought, she shared—even if it meant cutting it in two. She gave generously to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and countless others in need.
Aileen in Ministry: Aileen was a faithful member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, always in prayer and study as she sought to know Christ. She was devoted to her ministry of serving the sick and shut-in with fruit baskets, phone calls and an open heart.
Aileen the Sweet Soul: Aileen loved ice cream, caramel popcorn, cow foot, ackee and saltfish, and made the best fried dumplings. She loved Hallmark movies, detective shows like Magnum P.I., solving crossword puzzles, shopping and cruising. She had a playful spirit—calling loved ones "Fresh Tail" or beckoning with her pointer finger or walking stick, touting the words "come here a minute" as if to give a spanking, always in jest.
Aileen was preceded in death by her parents Claudius and Stella, her husband Albert Matthews, brothers Roy (Earl), Dalton and Matthew. She leaves behind brothers Edson and Dudley, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a legacy of countless lives touched, hearts warmed, and souls nurtured. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
A visitation will be held at Titusville Community Seventh-day Adventist Church, 5005 Barna Ave, Titusville, FL 32780 on April 13, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at the same location.
A committal service will take place at Cocoa Memorial Park, 320 Spring St, Cocoa, FL, on April 13, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
