George Petrou, 99, of West Melbourne, FL passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019. Born in Famagusta, Cyprus, George immigrated to the United States in 1952 before moving to Florida in 1990 from New York. George assisted immigrants from Cyprus and other Greek immigrants get established in the US for many years after he immigrated. He was a member of the Pan Cyprians of America.
He worked as a tailor in NYC before retiring. George enjoyed designing and building houses. He could often be found tending to his garden and mowing his lawn. He loved cooking traditional Greek meals, and enjoyed having visitors to share his special Greek coffee and Baklava. His family has fond memories of the stories he would tell, always including a valuable life lesson. George was a devoted family man and shared a special bond with his grandson, Alexander.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Stella, in 1994. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Zacharias and Sharon Petrou; grandson and grand-daughter-in-law, Alexander and Sueh Petrou; and great-grandson, Carter Petrou.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 11, 2019 at 10AM at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home.
