Harry joined the United States Navy at the age of 18, was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, and was honorably discharged in 1970. In 1972, he married the love of his life, June. Together, they raised three children.
A jack-of-all-trades, Harry developed a wealth of hands-on knowledge as a result of various jobs throughout the years including: milkman, roofer, pipe fitter, pool installer, painter, hospital facilities maintenance, and supervisor for the United States Postal Service. With a thirst for continuous learning, Harry regularly attended training courses, deepened his faith through reading, researched everything that piqued his curiosity, and learned how things worked by tinkering in his shed. Fast to make a friend, Harry loved to serve others whether as a mentor to high school teens, a chaplain’s aide at the hospital, a foster-father to those in need, or simply a shoulder to lean on.
Harry is preceded in death by his father Hugh Costello; mother Frances Jones Costello; two brothers William “Billy” Costello and John Costello; sister Eleanor Grasso; and brothers-in-law George Alacs and Joe Yesuvida. He is survived by his wife June Costello; three children Matthew (Ashley) Costello, Fr. Steven Costello, and Leslie (Ben) Clay; seven grandchildren Jadyn, Ethan, Julianna, Levi, Madelyn, Amelia, and Quinn; eight siblings Tom Costello, Mary Alacs, Frank Costello, Rose Costello, Kathy Costello, Cindy Costello, Cecelia Yesuvida, and Juanita (Mike Maresca) Costello; and brother-in-law Ron Grasso.
