He began a lifelong career in the construction industry, starting with Messer Drywall in the 60’s, then later in 1980 Messer Construction as a State Certified Class 1 General Contractor. He built numerous residential and commercial projects in the area. Through his construction years, he invited many retirees to work with him; William “Spuds” McKenzie was retired from the military and from General Motors; John Lundy, Saturn Builders of Brevard; Sam DeCarlo, DeCarlo Homes; Ken Simmons Florida Power & Light; Ron Thompson, Scotty’s Lumber & Supply; and Bill Stevenson, City of Cocoa. Jim considered them all as family. He was a conscientious member of the Community, donating to local charities, schools, various events and activities. He served on many local area boards and committees.
