Cocoa, FL — Antonio Alidas Bechard, 75, died Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at the Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, FL following a sudden illness.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Therese Bechard (nee: Paulhus); his children, Michele Ledoux of Woonsocket, RI, Mark Bechard and his wife Diane of Ashland MA, Melissa Roundy and her husband Phillip of West Melbourne, FL, and Monica Honey and her husband Jeff of Clermont, FL; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen nieces and nephews, and many close friends.
Born and raised in Worcester, MA, the son of Alidas Bechard and Malvina (nee: Nowicki), brother of Theresa Bonneau, by whom he was predeceased. After graduating from Oxford High School in 1961, he joined the Navy in 1962 and served two years of active duty.
Tony was a carpenter by trade, working many years for the New England Regional Council of Carpenters, Local #107 and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local #1765. During his time off, he started his own construction company, building multiple homes in the town of Northbridge along with many additions. Tony was known for offering his carpentry services to anyone in need (along with the plumbing, electrical and masonry skills he learned over his lifetime).
An avid golfer, fisherman, who loved watching NASCAR, the Patriots, the Red Sox and the Bruins. After moving to Cocoa, FL he joined the American Legion Post #0359 of Port St. John where he made many friends, who enjoyed his contagious spirit for life. He recently started going on cruises to the Caribbean, striking up conversations with anyone he encountered and living life to the fullest.
Friends and Family will be received On Sunday, August 18th at the Brevard Memorial Funeral Home in Cocoa, FL. From 10-11 am with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 11:00 am.
