Carrie Heath Smith

“Well done my good and faithful servant.”

Carrie Darden Heath Smith was the daughter of the Late Carrie F. Howell (Colonel “Jake” Howell, Jr.), and George Hightower. She was born November 6, 1944, in Atlanta, Georgia and she received her heavenly wings on January 26, 2024.

Carrie was a graduate of Archer High School of Atlanta, Georgia. In 1966, Carrie welcomed her only son, Derrick B. Heath. One of the greatest joys, and honors was being a mother and loving her son unconditionally. Carrie was a dedicated and respected employee at the Georgia Department of Labor. After 30 years, she retired from the State in December 2009.

Carrie accepted Christ at an early age attending First Corinth Missionary Baptist Church. She reunited with the Lord joined First Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in 1998, and after 15 years of membership, she joined New Life Church, Decatur, Georgia where she faithfully served and remained an active member.

On July 12, 1993, she was united into holy matrimony with her husband, Rodrick Smith, becoming a mother of two sons.

Carrie was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who was always concerned about the welfare of her family. Mrs. Smith was loved by all who know her, often referred to as the “Glue that keeps the family together. She loved the unity of family and taught the importance of family.

Carrie leaves to cherish her memory; her husband, Roderick Smith of Stone Mountain, GA, sons, Derrick B. Heath (LaTasha) of Fayetteville, GA, and Micheal Smith (Tanisha); one bonus daughter, Anna Thomas-Ingram. Her granddaughter, Jazmin Heath, Norcross, GA, one bonus granddaughter Stanasia Patterson (Kaiheem) of Norcross, GA, one bonus grandson, Cortez Johnson (Shelby) of Manhattan, NY, sister, Betty Cleveland, Atlanta, GA, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, best friend, Summaria Ware (Stephen), College Park, GA family friend, Yolanda Grimes and close friends.

Proceeded in death by, her mother, father, stepfather, twin sister-Corrine Mitchell and sister, Emma Beaver.
