James R Hurst

James Rickie Hurst (“Dad”) was born on August 22, 1954, in Mobile, Alabama to the late Roosevelt Hurst Sr. and Lula Mae Hurst. James received his education in the Alabama School System. Early in his childhood, James met the love of his life, Shester whom he married and fathered two children, Lisa and Renee.

James enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy. James completed a certificate program in heating and air and electrical services. James was great in his profession until his retirement. James and his family moved to Atlanta, Georgia in early 1990’s and have called it home for over 30 years. On June 3rd, 2023, our husband, father, and grandfather departed this life.

He leaves to cherish memories and continue his legacy, loving wife Shester Hurst, 2 Loving Daughters Lisa Stewart (Fayetteville, GA) and Latrienda “Renee” Hurst (Atlanta, GA), and loving granddaughter Charmaine Hurst (Atlanta, GA); Devoted Siblings, two sisters Beverly (Calvin) Lucas in Saraland, Alabama, and Janet (Don) Towner in Moore, Oklahoma; Four Brothers Cleve Hurst in Saraland, Alabama, Lonnie Hurst in Atlanta, GA, Gilbert (Faye) Hurst in Portsmouth, VA, and Tyrone Hurst in Atlanta, GA;

James was proceeded in death by his parents and brother Roosevelt Hurst Jr.; James had host of brother and sisters-in-laws Calvin Lucas, Don Towner , Faye Hurst, Joseph(Rhonda) Stewart, Daniel Johnson, Patricia Rodriguez , Janice Stewart and Bernice Stewart; James had a host of close Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins; James had a host of nieces and nephews; notably his nephew Dexter Crook whom he had a special bond. James had a host of friends and host of close friends known as “the crew” best friend Jack Haines, Clarence Haines Eddie Moss, Rodney Chestang, Joseph (Moon) Stewart his traveling buddy, and LeBaron Brown.

A visitation for James will be held Friday, June 16, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 5755 Mallory Road, College Park, GA 30349. A funeral service will occur Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 11:00 AM, 5755 Mallory Road, College Park, GA 30349. A burial will be held at forest lawn memorial gardens will occur.
