

Dr. Bardin H. Nelson, born August 25, 1921, went to be with the Lord Sunday night at 8:40 PM. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Parkway Baptist Church.
He leaves behind wife, Mary Gail (Windy) Nelson, Sons, Bardin Nelson Jr and wife Janis Nelson and their children, Penelope, Christopher and Trey. Son Howard Nelson and wife Claudia Nelson and their children Nicole Arendale (and husband Richard) and Jonathan Nelson, MD (and wife Katy), great grandchildren Richard, Claudia Anne, and Jane Nelson Arendale, and Caroline Nelson. Also left behind were his brothers William Ray Nelson and Rev. Hugh Nelson as well as children of Windy Nelson and late husband Ira, who were Ira (Monte) Montgomery and wife Jan and grandchildren Quinn and Coco, and Christie Morales and grandchildren Melissa, Amy, Leah, and Zach.
Dr. Nelson was predeceased by his wife Barbara Campbell Nelson of 39 Years, in 1979.
He was born in Oakland, Louisiana, was high school Valedictorian and received his BS, MS, and PhD from LSU. After serving as a Naval Officer in WW II, he returned to LSU where he held several positions including Director of the YMCA. He was a founder of University Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. In 1950 he accepted what would become his lifelong assignment as Professor at Texas A&M University for the next thirty two years. During his tenure, he served as special advisor to President Earl Rudder and as an educational consultant to the Ford Foundation, where he helped establish structure and programs at The University of Allepo, in Allepo, Syria.
During his career Dr. Nelson served as special consultant to the Federal Government, School Districts, and other Universities and Colleges across the United States. He also served on the board of directors of the Baptist Standard of Texas for four years.
Dr. Nelson served as a deacon, and multiple times as Deacon Chair, at First Baptist Church of College Station where he and Barbara were members for thirty years. Subsequently, he served as a deacon at Parkway Baptist Church, where he and Windy were members for another thirty years, a church he and Barbara helped establish, years earlier, as a mission church of 1st Baptist College Station.
Dr Nelson loved the Lord, loved his family, and was a friend to virtually everyone he met. Many came to cherish him as a special friend and man of integrity. He was loved and he will be missed
