Carman Johnston Ragatz II

Carman Johnston Ragatz II died peacefully Monday, November 12, 2018, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and many other health challenges, at the Hospice Brazos Valley Inpatient Facility in Bryan, Texas.

Carman was born March 11, 1928, one of eight children to Carman and Rosanna (Parker) Ragatz in Pontiac, Michigan. He served his country in the US Navy at the end of WWII.

Carman married Jeanette (Jan) Hager August 8, 1953 and they had 4 children. He worked hard throughout his life to provide for his family as a truckdriver and diesel mechanic. Carman coached peewee football, served as an usher and on church council, and taught confirmation and Sunday school for many years. He retired from Oakland County Road Commission and he and Jan moved to Texas. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, square dancing and jitter bug dancing with his wife, deer hunting, music of all kinds, woodworking, poetry and history. He loved to play games with family members and friends. Each child, grandchild and great grandchild, niece and nephew held a special place in his heart. He was an “adopted” father/grandfather to many friends, as well. He was devoted to Christ and willing to serve where ever needed and able.

He always offered a birthday blessing “Many happy returns to the day of your birth, may joy and gladness be given, and may the dear Father prepare you on earth for a glorious birthday in heaven” and greeted friends with “Another day of grace!”

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Paul, Phillip, John, Janet, Thomas, Stephen and David, and his grandchildren Cynthia and Joshua.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, his children, Terrie and John Spradley (Katy, Texas), Carman and Patricia Ragatz (Houston, Texas), Linda and Marty Moffett (League City, Texas), Elaine and Val Gomulka (College Station, Texas), his grandchildren, Melissa and Jim Wangler, Chris and Liz Miller, Jonathan Miller, Renee’ and Paul Kelley, John Jr and Amber Spradley, Carman IV and Sarah Ragatz, James and Amanda Ragatz, Jeanette and Ricardo Hernandez, Charissa Moffett, Martin Moffett, Christine Moffett, Carlee Moffett, Alison Gomulka, Lauren Gomulka, Jennifer and Jim Miller, his great grandchildren - Brendan, Andrew and Connor Wangler, Zoey Miller, Heather, Holli, and Harmony Kelley, Sophia and Connor Spradley, Emma Lynn, Clara, Benjamin, and Elliott Ragatz, Megan and Phillip Ragatz, Alexys Ragatz, Preston Moffett, Ashlyn, Paityn and Aidan Miller, his in-laws - Barbara Ragatz, Judi Ragatz, Betty Hager, David and Gerry Hager, Alan and Jane Hager, and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Carman’s life and give glory to God will be held at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11 am. Visitation with the family will begin at 10 am. A luncheon will follow the service.

Memorials may be given to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church or Hospice Brazos Valley.
