She was born in Brownwood, Texas to Oscar and Frankie Fortune. She attended North Texas State University and married Leonard C. Williams in 1946. After living in West Texas for the first part of their marriage, they moved to College Station in 1958 where they raised their family. They were active members of their community and church and were avid fans of Texas A&M as evidenced the fact that they spent their honeymoon at the A&M/UT Thanksgiving Day game. Emma Jane taught piano lessons and accompanied for the church. She also loved to swing it with gospel, ragtime and blues tunes. She was a member of a quilting bee for 35 years and made beautiful quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. She and Leonard loved to square dance, play bridge and travel. And they both considered every moment with her grandkids and great grandkids a gift.
She was preceded in death by Leonard Williams, her husband of 61 years; her younger sister, Agatha Wiedebusch; and her daughter-in-law, Judy Kay Williams.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Harley and husband Terry, and their three children; sons, Wally Williams and his four children, Joe Williams, and Fred Williams and his wife Michelle, and their two children; nine grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
