Jo was born on May 12, 1919 in Pike County, Ohio to Vessa and Ada DeWitt. The sixth of nine children, Jo became a telephone operator at the Shawnee Hotel in Springfield, Ohio and later, during World War II, worked at the Contracting Office at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
She met and married George Stock, Navy Chief Petty Officer, in Washington D.C. They moved to Rosebud, Texas to raise their family and remained there until 1965. After moving to Bryan Texas, Jo worked in retail boutique clothing sales until 1982.
After the passing of her beloved George she moved to Glen Ellyn, Illinois in 1998 to be near her daughter and her family. She thrived living independently in downtown Glen Ellyn for many years, walking to her favorite stores and gift shops. The local firemen would often wave to her as she passed by. She spent much of her time doting on her grandchildren. She also was a regular attender of Glen Ellyn Bible Church and volunteered at Repeat Boutique in nearby Wheaton, Illinois.
Jo was a devout Christian, prayer warrior and encourager, always cheering you on with her infectious smile and kind words. She loved to bake and host dinners for her family and friends. Clearly, hospitality was one of Jo’s primary gifts.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Barry Stock and Roland Stock.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Stock (Bob) Neyland of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; daughters-in-law Mary Stock of Austin, Texas and Melissa Stock of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; grandchildren Kathryn Neyland Rickard, Callie Neyland Moran, Robert Neyland III, Amy Stock Saunders, Mark Stock, Kathryn Stock Stevenson, Miles Stock, and Zachary Stock; and 13 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 27, 2023.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.memorialfuneralchapel.com for the Stock family.
