Born on June 15, 1927, in Delta County, Texas, she is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William “Bill” Stribling, as well as her parents, two brothers, and a sister. Together they raised two boys whom she is survived, Randy Stribling of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Danny Stribling and his wife, Linda, of College Station. She is also survived by four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one brother, Lenton Moore and his wife, Kay, of Commerce, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill and Joyce met while she was working at the Sears office in Dallas and he was finishing school at East Texas State Teachers College. The two were introduced by his sister and her brother who had married the previous year. They moved to Bryan from Burleson, Texas, nine years ago and greatly enjoyed the friends they had in Mt. Vernon, Burleson, and the Carriage Inn in Bryan where they first lived when they moved to Bryan.
They counted their church friends at First United Methodist Churches in Burleson and Bryan as special. Joyce loved the Lord and greatly enjoyed her ladies groups at church as well as cooking and taking care of those who were ill or elderly. She would keep several “emergency” pound cakes in the freezer in case she needed to deliver a meal with no time to bake. However, if you asked her what was her favorite ministry, she would quickly respond that it was taking care of her husband and boys. She took great pride in her role as wife and mother. Growing up, there was seldom an event in which the boys participated that she was not in the stands or audience. She would also make sure Bill looked his best when he went to work or a meeting. Although Bill and Joyce enjoyed traveling around the world together, their favorite trips were the vacations taken with the grandkids.
Joyce will be laid to rest in Shook’s Chapel cemetery outside of Sulphur Springs, Texas, where a graveside service will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, September 10, 2015.
