

Margaret Ann Schmidt Hudson, age 73, passed away in College Station on May 2, 2016 of complications from diabetes. She was born in Galveston, Texas on February 28, 1943 the oldest child of James Buchanan Schmidt III and Mary Jane Mills Schmidt. She married James (Jim) E. Hudson, Jr. on February 27, 1965 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Galveston, Texas, then moved to Dallas. After raising four children, she and Jim moved to College Station.
Margaret Ann held a life-long love of education. She attended St. Patrick Catholic School and Ursuline Academy on the Island and remained a dedicated alumna. After graduation from Ursuline, Margaret Ann attended North Texas State University, graduating in 1965 with a Bachelors in Education. Afterwards, she taught in the private and public schools in Dallas, Texas. She ensured her children obtained excellent educations in all aspects of their lives.
Margaret Ann was an energetic and passionate individual, always ready to provide help to others. In her pursuit of family history and stories, she amassed a substantial collection of materials and documents, while serving as a leader in the Dallas Genealogical Society and authoring several family history books. Her research enabled her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family members to join organizations such as the Sons, Daughters, and Children of the Republic of Texas. She supported the Galveston and Texas History Center - Rosenberg Library. She donated own Ursuline Academy yearbooks to further preservation of the record of the Island’s history. She was an avid gardener, always keeping a substantial number of plants. She was a strong supporter of her children’s pursuits as well, serving as leader in the Boy Scouts of America, the Girl Scouts of America, and support organizations for her children’s extracurriculars when needed.
After sending her surviving children to Texas A&M University, she and Jim moved to College Station and opened an Aggie-themed framing and gift store known as Aggieland Depot. She enjoyed the day-to-day work with her husband Jim and the closeness of neighbors in College Station. It was joy to be able to leave a back door unlocked where neighbors could stop by.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her infant daughter Marjory Lee, and her husband Jim.
She is survived by her son James E. Hudson III and his wife Jennifer of Houston with their children Serena, Audrey, and James IV, her daughter Beth Hudson of Sugar Land, her son Michael A. Hudson and his wife Crystal of College Station with their children Kyle, Madison, and Rachel, and her son Matthew E. Hudson of College Station with his children Paige, Hailey, and Sean, by her brother J.B. Schmidt and his wife Claudie of Friendswood with their children and her brother John Schmidt and his wife Gigi of Galveston with their children, and by numerous cousins.
Visitation will be Friday, May 6th from 6pm - 8pm at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station, 2901 Texas Ave S, College Station, TX 77845. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday May 7th, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 217 W. 26th St, Bryan, TX with graveside services to follow at the Memorial Cemetery of College Station and the Aggie Field of Honor.
