

Oran Boulton Jones (Gunny) passed away on November 17, 2024, at the age of 80 in College Station, TX. Born on November 4, 1944, in Salinas, CA, he grew up to be a man of strong faith and robust spirit, deeply cherished by his extensive circle of loved ones.
Oran graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in 1962 and went on to earn his degree from Sam Houston University in 1968. Following his education, he dedicated 26 years to the United States Marine Corps reserves, retiring with the respected title of (Master) Gunnery Sergeant. His commitment to service was evidenced at Texas A&M University, where he worked for 30 years, and further extended into his community through his involvement in the Police Department reserves in both Bryan and College Station.
Known for his wit and kindness, Oran was a true renaissance man who pursued varied interests and maintained a lifelong commitment to physical fitness, running, and weightlifting. His adventurous spirit was matched by his empathetic nature, making him a beloved figure amongst all who knew him.
Oran leaves behind his darling wife of sixty years, Pati; daughter Wendy Madden (Steve); son Gary Jones (Gretchen); grandchildren Taylor Jones (Lori), Madison and Lauren Jones; Kate and Hannah Madden; and great grandson Cameron Jones; sisters-in-law Susan Lawler (Ed) and Laura McEuen; nieces Layson Lawler Denney (William) and Lucy McEuen; nephews Cole Lawler (Elise) and Charles McEuen along with numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews.
Dignity Memorial in College Station, TX, is assisting the family with arrangements. Oran's life and legacy will be remembered fondly by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know him. His leadership, both in and out of uniform, his devotion to his family, and his unwavering faith have left an indelible mark on his community. A Memorial service is not planned at this time, but his memory fills our hearts daily. Semper Fi.
