Ruby Mae Hartmann Zahn, age 94 years, passed away peacefully at her home in College Station, Texas on October 9, 2019, surrounded by family members. Ruby, the youngest of 11 children, was born April 21, 1925 Ft. Bend County Texas, to Otto Hartmann and Minna Thomson. She attended school in Bernard Prairie, Texas and later was employed by Weingarten in Houston in the early prewar years. She married Walter Zahn on October 27, 1946, and they worked alongside each other in a small family-owned business for many years in Wharton Texas. For over 60 years, she was a member of St. John's Lutheran in Wharton Texas. Her religion was very important to her and she was a faithful servant of her Heavenly Father.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Walter in 1992, after 46 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death were her parents Otto and Minna, her siblings, Clara, Alvin, Johnny, Frieda, Emily, Minnie, Paul, Mary, Louis, and Emil. She is survived by her two sons David Zahn and wife Kathy of College Station, and Gary Zahn of Houston; two grandchildren Lynsey Zahn Dorsett and husband Paul, and Randy Zahn and wife Lindsay, along with six great-grandchildren, Blake Dorsett, Bradley Dorsett, Caden Pachla-Zahn, Tyler Zahn, Mason Zahn, and Barrett Zahn, all of College Station, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station Sunday, October 13th 5:00-7:00pm, with interment in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Ruby was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who will be greatly missed by us all here on earth, but who is happily reunited at a great reunion now being held in Heaven. The family wishes to express deep gratitude to Scott & White, Jamyl Walker, N.P, and Encompass Home Health & Hospice for the care given Ruby during her final days. Memorials can be made to the Charity of Choice.
