Carroll Coles Scott

Carroll C. “Scotty” Scott, 96, loving husband and father, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 2, 2014. Scotty was born in New York City in 1918 and graduated from Haarren Aviation High School in 1936. His lifelong passion for aviation was sparked by Lindbergh’s solo crossing of the Atlantic in 1927. After high school, Scotty embarked on an amazing career in aviation. He built B-17 bombers during World War II. He then got hired at NACA, the predecessor to NASA where he worked on the cutting-edge aircraft of the time. Scotty then went to work for Lockheed Aviation at Idlewild (now JFK) Airport. At Lockheed he worked on his all-time favorite aircraft, the Constellation. After Lockheed, he went to work for Trans Caribbean Airways. During a vacation trip to Puerto Rico, met his future wife, Luz, at the beach and decided to start a new life in Puerto Rico. He became an American Airlines employee when American bought out Trans Caribbean. After 18 years of island living he decided it was time for a change and moved his whole family to Euless, Texas. This city quickly became his home and in short order it was obvious that Euless is where he belonged all along. His passion for the city, and its fellow residents, was evident in the countless hours of volunteer service he provided. He could always be found at city council meetings or serving on the Parks board. At American, Scotty was promoted to Aircraft Maintenance Crew Chief where his crew received accolades for their efficient work. Scotty finally retired from American at the age of 78, after more than 30 years of service with American and over 50 years dedicated to the aviation industry. Upon retirement Scotty was awarded the distinguished Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award by the FAA. He also volunteered at American Airline’s C. R. Smith museum and at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History as well. Scotty is survived by his wife Luz, daughters Connie and Carol, son Michael and daughter in-law Cristina, grandchildren Sapphire and Andres Ortiz, Ceciliana Scott, Alfredo Lebron and Claire Toure, as well as numerous relatives and friends. Service: 10:30AM Tuesday at Euless First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 6-8PM Monday at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel.
