Dorothy was born on September 5, 1935 in Fort Worth, Texas to Clarence Richard and Gladys May Webb. She was the youngest of four siblings. She was a long-time resident of Burleson, Texas and a retired postal worker. Dorothy raised four children, Terry, Cheryl, Darrell and Karen, as a single mother.
Some of Dorothy’s passions were music, gardening, painting, the outdoors, bird watching and her ancestry.
She played piano and violin and music was a big part of her life. She spent many hours at the piano playing classical music. She passed the love of music to her daughter, Cheryl. Cheryl will never forget her mom taking her to see Harry James’ Big Band for her 16th birthday and to New Orleans for high school graduation to see Pete Fountain and other local jazz players.
One of the fondest memories her daughter, Karen, has of her is the way she celebrated Karen’s 20th birthday. Dorothy purchased a green floor length dress for her daughter in order for her brother, Terry, to take pictures of her when she was about 13 years old. Dorothy adored her daughter in the dress because she said that particular shade of green always matched the color of Karen’s eyes. She always reminded her daughter of that dress throughout her entire life. On Karen’s 20th birthday, Dorothy made a birthday cake for her daughter using a barbie wearing a floor length green cake dress.
Family vacations typically included camping at a local state park where she and her kids would build campfires, fish and swim. She was always looking out for what birds were in the area.
Dorothy always had a vegetable garden, which was a passion she got from her father. Many of our dinners included salad and tasty watermelon or cantaloupe from the garden.
She was instrumental in ensuring that her grandfather’s home (the Webb House) was preserved as a historic site as he was one of the founding fathers of Colleyville, Texas. She also was the family historian with her extensive collection of photos and research on her ancestry.
As a single mom, she taught her children the value of an education and hard work.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Clarence, her mother, Gladys, and her three brothers, Crawford, Richard and Robert. She is survived by her four children, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
