

Graveside service: 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 25, in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Following the interment, a celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. at American Legion Post 379, 1245 N. Industrial Blvd., Bedford.
Gary was born July 2, 1935, in St. Paul Park, Minn., to George and Hazel Hall. He graduated from Harding High School in St.Paul, Minn. He was involved in Boy Scouts of America, becoming an Eagle Scout, Brotherhood Honors and Order of the Arrow. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, 18th Airborne, 51st Field Artillery, posted to Germany with occupation forces, 17th Signal Battalion. Gary returned to Minnesota and completed school at athe University of Minnesota. He retired from Simplex Time Recorded Company after 35 years, where he designed and sold life safety fire alarm systems.
Gary was a member of La Societe Des 40 et 8, Chef de Gare, Sons of the Legion Squadron - adjutant, chaplin and commander; a life member of the American Legion Post 379, Bedford, where he served on many committees - Americanism, newsletter, public relations, needy family, honor guard, post chaplin (for 9 years) and post commander; District 12 chaplin; Division 1 chaplin; and Department/State chaplin (for two years). Gary also was involved with the national committees for security, military affairs and homeland security, Post Clown Unit. He was an avid bass fisherman, member of C.A.S.T. (Couples Association of Sports Tournaments), a season ticketholder for Brahmas Hockey, and a world yo yo champion. He enjoyed woodworking, making bird houses and feeders. After finally settling on birding, he achieved 125 identified birds. He definitely was granted a life of joy and love. For God and country.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margarite Wicke; brother, Charles "Chuck" Skellerud; and daughter, Carol J. Hall.
Survivors: Wife, Mary; sons, Gary J., Ronald J., David J. (Karen); daughter, Nancy J. Stephens; four grandsons; one great-grandson; brother, Steve Skellerud; and many nieces and nephews.
