A true Texan, born in Waco, George grew up in Amarillo. He played both baseball and football at Tascosa High School. He went to Amarillo Junior College for a few years on a baseball scholarship and then joined the United States Air Force. He was a Proud Vietnam Veteran that served his country from 1968 to 1974. After serving his country, he started his banking career, went back to college at TCU all while raising his family in northeast Tarrant County. George spent over 45 years as a financial investment banker, retiring in 2018. Labor Day 2019 George experienced a cardiac event, God gave us a miracle that year and George made more lasting memories with friends and family. Everyone wanted another miracle in 2021 but God was ready to bring him Home.
George “Papa” was a true family man that loved life and his family and friends with all his heart. A true gentleman that was generous with his love and made everyone he met feel special. He had a heart of gold and brought laughter and comfort. He loved his country and what it stood for.
His passions were gardening, playing golf with his buddies, watching his grandchildren at all their events, and hunting with his best friend, his son, and his grandson. He loved watching sports of any kind especially his home teams the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, Texas Rangers and TCU Horned Frogs.
George loved to wine and dine with family and friends and was always ready to go - social butterfly you might say. Protective beyond measure of his family and friends – someone you could always count on.
He was preceded in death by his father George Dea Milton Hopper Jr., mother Mable Francis Hopper and brother Robert Hopper. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Michele Hopper, son Dea Hopper and children Madison and Garrett, daughter Shannon Elder and children Miles George and Chase Dea, brother Ron Hopper, sister Sharon Russell, sister in law, Glenda Hopper, sister in law Lisa Pilgrim and husband Mike and sister in law Ruth Bennett and husband James along with 13 nephews.
