

James Herbert Acheson went to be with the Lord on May 25, 2017 at his home in Mansfield, Texas. James, the son of the late Pearl and James Acheson was born December 14, 1923 in Duquesne, Pennsylvania. He graduated from McKeesport High School in 1941. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Division during World War II coming home in 1946. His service in the Army continued as an officer in the Army Reserves for 20 more years, retiring as a Major in 1969. His career as a Superintendent over the operations of the Electric Mill with U.S. Steel in Duquesne and later Yardley, Pennsylvania spanned over 30 years. After retiring from U.S. Steel, Jim was called back as a consultant for them overseeing the building and operations of new steel mills in Italy, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. While working full time, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1959. Jim married Barbara Svitlak on February 10, 1947 and they had two sons, David and Russell. An active member in the Methodist Church in Duquesne and Gill Hall, Pennsylvania serving as superintendent of Sunday school and Board of Trustees. He enjoyed golf, sports—especially the STEELERS and most of all time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barbara, brother Donald and sister Audrey. He is survived by his sons, David and wife Marilyn of Cedar Hill, Russell of Hamilton, New Jersey, grandchildren, Andrea Liang, Danielle Taft, Jamie Tobolski and Michael Acheson and 9 great grandchildren. To honor his life, a funeral service will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 12:30pm. Hi will be laid to rest at DFW National Cemetery at 2:30pm. His visitation will be Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:30pm.
