

He was born June 23rd, 1934, in Plymouth, Michigan to the late Ernest A. and Edna (Gottschalk) Burger. He married his beloved wife, Emma, of 59 years on December 23, 1961 and had two beautiful daughters.
After serving in the U.S. Navy he became enamored with flying and owned several personal planes in his younger years.
Jim was a retired builder and land developer in the Grapevine/Southlake area. He built every house he lived in and improved upon many households for his family members. He was heavily involved with Volunteer Christian Builders for 36 years, 10 of which he was crew chief.
He enjoyed RVing with family, playing baseball with his grandkids, and fiddling around with whatever he could touch.
He loved God and was a deacon at Mount Zion Baptist Church. He enjoyed working around the church and helping prepare and deliver for meals on wheels.
Friends and family said you would never see Jim without a smile on his face.
Preceded in death by his parents & brothers: William Ernest and Gene Douglas Burger.
Survived by his wife, Emma (Batterton) Burger; daughters: Angela Jane Burger of Bowie, Sarah Elizabeth (Burger) Ridge & husband, Robert of Alvord; Grandchildren: Shilah Brook (Ridge) Bell & husband, Craig of Gainesville; Brandon James Ridge of Alvord; & Haliegh Elizabeth Ridge of Alvord. As well as many beloved extended family members.
The viewing will be held on Thursday, December 31st at 10 AM at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Alvord, Texas with the service at 11 AM followed by the graveside service. Food will be held at 1 PM in the fellowship center.
Mount Zion Baptist Church is located at 615 Co Rd 1280, Alvord, TX 76225.
Masks are required for the service.
