He was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on August 22, 1941. He married Stacey Thurman on November 4, 1962. Jim graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He worked for Bell Helicopter from 1964 until he retired in 2003.
Jim’s greatest pleasures in life were reading his Bible and raising his three sons. He led mission groups for twenty-five years to Mexico to work on churches and orphanages. These groups consisted of junior high, senior high, and college aged students. Jim was a Cubmaster and Scoutmaster for his sons’ Scout troops. He was an active church member, most recently serving on the Missions Committee and Emergency Response Team at Journey Church. He loved sharing his faith with others.
He had a lifelong love of the outdoors. During his retirement he enjoyed being able to spend more time camping and going off road Jeeping with his family and close friends. He liked fixing things in his own house, and helping family and friends do the same at theirs. He wanted to be a help in any way that he could. He was incredibly involved in the lives of his grandchildren and enjoyed taking them to Starbucks often with his wife, Stacey.
He is survived by his wife Stacey Culberson, children Brian Culberson, Eric Culberson (wife Jennifer), Monica Faver (husband Tom), grandchildren Elizabeth Carpenter (husband Taylor), Catherine Hardy (husband Zach), James Culberson, Chase Culberson, Brady Culberson, and Kendall Culberson, and great-grandsons John Carpenter, Jace Carpenter and Caleb Hardy.
