James Lee “Jimmy” Death, 66, of Southlake, Texas died on April 27, 2021 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on February 17, 1955 to William Bailey Death, Sr. and Mildred Dolores Martin Death in Atlanta, Georgia.
Jimmy was a 1973 graduate of Wade Hampton High School in Hampton, South Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Petroleum Land Management in 1978 from the University of Oklahoma. He married Cindy Lee Marshall on October 20, 1979 in Checotah, Oklahoma.
Jimmy began his career as a Petroleum Landman in 1978 with Phillips Petroleum Company in Houston, Texas. He transferred to the Jackson, Mississippi office and returned to Houston in 1980. In 1981, he accepted a position with Andover Oil Company, later Santa Fe Minerals, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He also worked for Sampson Resources in Tulsa. In 1992 he joined Apex Oil Company in Houston.
In 1994, he joined Cross Timbers Oil, later XTO Energy Inc, in Fort Worth, Texas where he rose to Senior Vice President of Land. In 2014 he retired after a thirty-six-year career in the oil and gas industry.
Jimmy was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Landmen (AAPL) where he served on the Ethics Board. He was a member and former President of the Fort Worth Association of Petroleum Landmen (FWAPL) where he held various board positions. Additionally, he was a member of numerous Associations of Petroleum Landmen including ETAPL (East Texas), TAPL (Tulsa), OCAPL (Oklahoma), DAPL (Dallas), PBLA (Permian Basin), FSAPL (Fort Smith), HAPL (Houston), and MAPL (Mississippi). He was also a member of the Fort Worth Wildcatters. Jimmy was a knowledgeable and willing teacher to anyone who wanted to learn about the oil and gas industry. He was a former Chairman of the Fort Worth Heart Walk and TEAM JIMMY worked on many Habitat for Humanity downtown builds in Fort Worth. He also served on the board of Russwood on the Lake Homeowners Association, Pottsboro, Texas
He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, Jimmy-Pa and friend.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Cindy Marshall Death, his grandparents Harry Lee and Vivian Bailey Death and James Robert and Mildred Root Martin, his brother, Jeffrey Martin Death, Sr., his nephew, Jeffrey Martin Death, Jr., and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lee and Lila McKee Marshall.
He is survived by daughters, Julia Death Burns and Cynthia Death Machowski, grandchildren, Jack Scott Burns, Cindy Lee Machowski, Lila Jane Burns and Davis James Machowski and sons-in-law, Jeffrey Scott Burns and Michael Anthony Machowski, of Prosper, Texas. He is also survived by his brother, William Bailey Death, Jr. and sister-in-law, Rita Brown Death of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, sister-in-law, LuAnn Marshall York and brother-in-law, Gregory Todd York, of Sugar Land, Texas, niece Bailey Irene Death of Charlotte, North Carolina, nephews, William Bailey Death III and wife, Lauren, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Phillip Lee Death and wife, Sara, of Fayetteville, West Virginia, John Marshall York of Sugar Land, Texas and James Todd York of Missouri City, Texas, as well as numerous cousins, colleagues and friends.
