Judy Kay (Poninski) Sperry of Hurst, Texas, passed from this life unexpectedly on December 17, 2020. Always a spark of joy, she will be forever remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, adored grandmother, and fiercely loyal friend.
Judy was born on May 28, 1944. in St. Charles, Illinois, to Raymond and Katherine Poninski. She spent her young life in Aurora, linois, and graduated from West Aurora High School. She met the love of her life, Roger Sperry, while at West High. Judy and Roger were married May 4, 1963 in Aurora, Illinois.
Judy played an important role supporting Roger in his career with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, As their family grew, they relocated to Missoula, Montana, back to Aurora, then to White Bear Lake, Minnesota in 1970. There she was a full-time volunteer for Scouts, their church, and their children's schools. In 1984 the Sperry's made their last move, where Judy made Texas her home. She was deeply patriotic and served as a poll worker during numerous elections.
In retirement. Judy and Roger traveled extensively visiting family and loved ones. They spent many winters on the beaches in Florida with old and new friends. Judy made lasting friendships with everyone she met.
Judy was passionate about keeping her family traditions alive as well as doing extensive research on her family genealogy. She passed on favorite family stories and recipes to her grandchildren. Active in all of their lives. Grandma Judy lovingly supported each of them.
Judy's deep and abiding faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and the community of the Roman Catholic Church was central to her life.
Judy is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Roger Sperry, daughter Jennifer (Sperry) Dooley, her husband Robert and their children Lauren. Ryan, and Meghan: daughter Christine (Sperry) Waczak and her children John and Michaels and son James Sperry, his wife Adella and their children Joshua and Katherine. She was preceded in death by her mother Katherine (Pessina) Poninski and her father Raymond Poninski.
Her funeral Mass will be held at Good Sheppard Catholic Community in Colleyville, Texas on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 1pm. The Mass will be streamed live via GSCC Facebook page.
