Linda was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and graduated from Baker High School in 1960. She married Dan Meade in 1968, and gave birth to her daughter, Jennifer, in 1976. She began as an operator at South Central Bell, and held a variety of roles thereafter at Bell South and AT&T for 38 years, until she retired.
She enjoyed sitting on the back patio, next to the potted plants she meticulously cared for. She loved her family’s “very fine dogs” who, in her eyes, could do no wrong. But most of all, she loved simply taking care of others. Whether it was cooking a meal, mending a torn pant leg, or ordering just the right gift, if there was something she could do to help someone else, that became her priority.
Her faith and family were at the center of her life, and her favorite role was being “Maynay” to her grandsons, Brian and Jason. They were her pride and joy.
Linda is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Meade McCarthy; her son-in-law, Patrick; and her grandsons, Brian (21) and Jason (18). She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Dan; her parents, Benjamin Franklin Ellis III and Linnie Ellis; her brother, Benjamin Franklin Ellis IV; and her sister, Stella Ellis Nugent.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Discovery Village at Southlake, who took care of Linda in her final weeks. The love and attention they provided was truly appreciated.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 19, at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Boulevard, in Colleyville, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10 am, with the service to follow at 11 am. Following a brief graveside service where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, a light lunch will be available for friends and family.
