He was born on March 23rd, 1950, in Lexington, Tennessee to Carl and Mary Melton. He loved ranching and the cowboy way of life. As his health deteriorated, music, western movies, and television shows filled his days.

Then, he had the opportunity to work for the Houston Belt and Terminal Railway Company in Houston. After several years, he and Kathy moved to Jewett, Texas. Here, living off a country road, surrounded by the peace and quiet of nature, they found their true home.
On May 30th, 1998, Randy married Kathy Ford at an outdoor wedding in Oklahoma. They were together until her passing on May 8th, 2013.
Randy is survived by his brother Steve Melton; his sisters, Janie Melton-Judy, Sharon Moore, and Sandra Harrison along with her husband Glen. He is also survived by six nieces and a nephew.
