Steven Michael Weinberg of Colleyville, Texas, passed away on August 20, 2021 in Edwards, Colorado. A Renaissance Man devoted to his family, Steve loved golfing, hunting and fishing, skiing, piloting, making his famous pies, and learning about anything new. His affinity for 50’s music endured from his early days as a disc jockey and he never met a microphone he didn’t love, taking every chance he could to sing bass on “Proud Mary” or tell jokes that never ceased to amuse him.
He was born on December 4, 1942 in Fort Benning, Georgia to Harry and Evelyn (Waxenberg) Weinberg. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gary Weinberg. Steve was a precocious learner with a brilliant mind that retained every detail. After graduating high school in Davenport, Iowa in 1960, Steve enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, earned his M.D. from the University of Iowa, and trained at UT Southwestern Medical Center. After successfully practicing as a general surgeon, Steve began his second career as an attorney, studying abroad at Oxford and earning his law degree from SMU. He also taught at Tarrant County College and worked in real estate development, oil and gas, ranching and private equity.
Steve served in the U.S. Air Force as Chief of Surgical Services at Ramey AFB, as the Associate Director and Medical Director of the Peace Corps, and on the TX Alcohol and Beverage Commission. He was a long-time church member in TX and Colorado, including First Baptist Euless and First Colleyville, and he made mission trips to Honduras, Haiti, and Africa. Steve was a Rotarian and past President of the Hurst, Euless, Bedford Rotary Club, a devout philanthropist, and a member of the State Republican Executive Committee.
Steve is survived by his beautiful wife of almost 40 years, Vicki (Smith) Weinberg of Colleyville, TX; his three children, Michael Weinberg of Albuquerque, NM, Shannon Kinney (Cooper) of Houston, TX, and Joshua Weinberg (Tricia) of Memphis, TN; his grandchildren, Ella and Ava May Weinberg, Collins and Hudson Kinney and Campbell and Cobbs Weinberg; and his beloved dog Cici. Spending time with family was Steve’s highest priority, whether telling corny “Papa” jokes or bringing everyone together for far-flung adventures. Steve lived his life following his father-in-law’s mission to always leave the woodpile higher than you found it.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on August 28 at First Colleyville with a reception at the church to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Gladney Center for Adoption, Amerson Music Industries, or First Liberty Institute. Online condolences may be made at www.bluebonnethills.com.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.bluebonnethills.com for the Weinberg family.
