Wanda Jean Allen passed way Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born October 28, 1934, in Brownwood, Texas to her parents, James Jackson (J.J.) and Effie Land. Mr. Land was a minister in the Assemblies of God denomination, so Jean grew up in church playing the piano, organ, and accordion. Jean often sang with her brothers and sisters as the Land family was very musical and continues to be so to this day. There were actually 10 Land children of which Jean was the youngest.
Jean was raised in San Antonio, Texas, where she graduated from Breckenridge High School before attending Trinity University. She then went on to a career in the medical field doing medical transcription at Fort Sam Houston Army Base in San Antonio.
Still being active in her father’s church, Jean met Gene Owen Allen when he came to preach for her father at Glad Tidings Assembly. They married May 6, 1961, and continued to travel the nation sharing the gospel. Their marriage produced two children, Heidi Jean Allen and Garland Owen Allen.
When Heidi was school age, the Allen family settled in Denison, Texas. From there, the family moved to Pampa, Texas, where they continued to live and minister from 1971 to 2008. After many years in the ministry, Gene and Jean moved to Keller, Texas, to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Jean had a passion for ministry and faithfully served beside her husband. She continued her love of music and also became an astute oil painter. She gave many of her paintings away and they are still enjoyed by her friends and family.
Jean had two grandchildren, Hailey Allen and Tate Roush. Hailey and her husband Michael gifted her with 4 great grandsons while Tate and his wife Casey Jo gifted her with 3 great grandsons. She was always so proud to say she had 7 great grandsons and deeply loved and adored each of them!
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 7 brothers and sisters, as well as nephews and nieces that she loved and missed. She is survived by daughter Heidi and her husband Robert of Argyle, son Garland of Keller, her 2 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, as well as her sister Jo Ferguson of Houston and her brother Bob Land of Georgetown, sister-in-law Sue Scoma of Colleyville along with numerous nieces and nephews.
