Wilbert was born on May 4, 1927, in Chicago, IL, to Willie and Lillie (Nelson) Hudson. He served in the U.S Army during World War II. Wilbert worked in a civilian capacity at Fort Sheridan military base until retirement. Together with Ruth (Epperson) Hudson, they raised two sons, Glenn and Myron, and one daughter, Tanya.
Wilbert had a natural curiosity for technology and information. He was constantly looking for the newest gadget or delegating family members to search for an item. He was also an inventive cook, making his famous fried spaghetti for breakfast, or peanut butter chicken cacciatore. Mostly he was full of light and happiness, charming everyone that he met. His sunny disposition made it hard not to smile and feel happy in his presence. He was always finding special things to do for the children around him. His generous heart moved him to help others, with advice, financial help, a friendly drink, or even a hug.
Wilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; his daughter, Tanya; his two sons, Myron and Glenn; and nine of his siblings. He is survived by his sister Roberta (Walter) Simpson, his brother Robert (Dorothy) Hudson, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives.
