Bill was born May 13, 1955 in Dallas, Texas, to Mary Grace (Dunn) and Will Rufus McDaniel. He attended Bishop Dunne High School and the University of Dallas. In 1989, he co-founded GenText, a premier provider of document transform technology. He was a speaker at many industry conferences and was a certified Electronic Document Professional. He was the co-author of In-House Publishing in a Mainframe Environment, On-Line Text Management: Hypertext and Other Techniques, Wrestling Legacy Data To The Web and Beyond, and several other technical books.
From there he went on to lead a development team at Adobe Systems, and to mentor doctoral students at the Digital Enterprise Research Institute at the National University of Galway, Ireland. In 2010, he returned to Texas and founded Semantistar, a developer of semantically-powered iPad applications.
He leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Linda McDaniel of Bedford, Texas, his son Ian McDaniel, of Los Angeles, CA, his sister Linda Leininger of San Antonio, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Nova Dawn McDaniel and Fiona Amber McDaniel, and by his sister Julia.
We will remember Bill for his infectious laugh, wonderful spirit and sense of joy that he shared with all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
