Irby Ray Fletcher, Jr. of Germantown, TN passed away Thursday, October 17 at Methodist Germantown hospital. A native of Collierville, TN he was a resident of Germantown for 38 years before moving to Kirby Pines. He was the husband of Mary Dignowity Fletcher, a current resident of Kirby Pines. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kathleen M. Fletcher and Irby Ray Fletcher, Sr., and his brothers Frank Fletcher and Burt Fletcher. Ray was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Mississippi which accumulated nine battle stars. He wore his Navy baseball cap with pride. All who knew him admired and respected him for his humble manner and his selfless acts of kindness. If you needed anything, he was the man to call. He enjoyed riding his bicycle daily and visiting with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three children, Irby Ray Fletcher III (Gina), Darwin Konrad Fletcher (Susan) and Ricka F. Socha (Gerry); brother Dalton Fletcher, grandchildren Holly Freeman, Jack Fletcher, Josh Fletcher, Mitch Fletcher, and Matt Thurmond, 7 great grandchildren and 7 nieces and nephews.
Services, under the direction of Collierville Funeral Home, will be on October 29. The family will receive friends at 9 AM, the funeral service will be at 10 AM with a reception following. A private graveside service will be held at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
