Alex was our first grandchild and the first one to make us great-grandparents. We are so proud of the man you became to be and we are grateful for all the joy you brought us. Sing loud among the angels in heaven because you are part of God’s chorus now. We will never forget you and you will be in our hearts forever. We love you!

Alex was a fraternity brother of mine in KA.

He was a kind, charitable man. He was everyone's friend and no one's enemy. He had a smile for everyone he met and never refused to offer a helping hand,

When I heard he decided to become a police officer, it seemed perfectly fitting for him as he always was one to protect and serve. Several years ago when there was a falling out between myself and another KA brother, he tried his best to repair the rift. He inspired me with his devotion to his family, wife, children and friends.

His smile and friendship was a constant star in my life and in the lives of everyone who ever met him. He wasn't the person who craved being in the limelight and was content to help shine the light on others.

I literally cannot say a bad thing about him because in all the time I knew him, he never acted in any manner but that would bring him honor and praise. I love and respect Alex Shindler and I wish I could have told him when he was still with us.

Jimmie Alex Shindler was an extremely sharp officer.  I worked over 7 years with him at Mount Moriah precinct on Alpha shift.  He always treated Memphis citizens with respect and dignity. He was always a team player, willing to put shift goal above his personal ambitions. Myself and other officers  could call him anytime if we needed some assistance on figuring out a difficult situation.  Myself and Shindler bonded many different ways. He and I were  San Francisco 49ers fans and every night before and after roll call he and I would crack jokes about each other. When I worked the desk every night he would come and crack jokes about me before he left  the precinct. He use to say “alright old dusty ass dude text or call me if yo old ass can’t stay up I’ll bring you some coffee and something to eat. I will never forget how we made each other laugh.  I’m going to miss you my brother in blue.

I had the pleasure of knowing Alex for over 30 years. I loved coaching him. He was a great ball player. You will truly be missed. 

Shindler, you were more than a FTO and partner to me you was my brother. I remember the first day on my fourth phase the first thing you said to me was “I hope you ready for this work” and then we proceed to sit at Mark’s gas station for 30 minutes while you and Mark laughed it up. I asked you why we was there so long and not patrolling like my other FTOs and you told me “community policing is key to knowing your ward and the people in it” and I thank you for teaching me that! Your warm heart and bright smile will be missed not only by MPD but by the community you served as well! You are the embodiment of the term friend! You made me into the officer and FTO that I am today and you have played a huge role in my life as a mentor as well. I could come to you with any problem and you would take time out and help me when times got hard. You have helped me with police and life issues and I thank you for that! The world has lost one of its best but heaven has gained another angel, so while your up there watching over all of us just rest easy knowing that we will never forget you and we all love you bro! Rest easy brother we got it from here…Till Valhalla!  

Alex, I rode my first day at Mt Moriah and the majority of your two man phase with you. We have been East since. We traded the number 5 every year for the Hester Sykes and I’d sneak an extra year in there before you knew it. One of my last texts with you is you guaranteeing you will be there this year. You will be there this year and every year to come, it won’t be the same playing in the field without you in front of me or walking in the precinct and you  not being there but you will absolutely be there in spirit for the rest of my days and officers to come. Rest easy brother, we have it from here and will make you proud. 

Alex was my first nephew and godchild. He was my brother’s first son and the first grandson to my parents. I was heartbroken 
to learn of your passing and it doesn’t feel real that your are gone. 
I will never forget the many nights and days that I rocked you to sleep, watched play baseball, sang in the chorus and just being you. You will always be in my heart. Rest in peace. Love, your aunt Rieny (Titi Sisi)
