Judy was a proud graduate of Memphis Central High School class of 1967. She went on to become a registered nurse upon graduation from the Methodist School of Nursing.
Judy began her career as labor and delivery nurse at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, TX. While in Dallas she was involved in many church, civic and social activities. She was a member of St. Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church where she was active in the youth ministry, and she volunteered with the St. Michaels Women’s Exchange. She also volunteered with the Dallas Ballet, the Dallas Women’s Board, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, 500 Club Inc., Dallas Summer Musicals and Children’s Medical Center. In addition, she was a member of the Junior League of Dallas, the Cotillion Club and Slipper. While in Dallas Judy developed many close friendships that she would treasure for the rest of her life.
In 1990 Judy returned to Memphis to spend time with her parents in their final years. She also chose to continue her passion for labor and delivery nursing at Methodist Hospital. She touched many lives caring for new mothers and their babies. In later years it was hard to go anywhere in Memphis with her without running into a former patient who recognized her and wanted to thank her or introduce their child to the “wonderful nurse” who took care of them when they were born. She loved her time and her amazing coworkers at Methodist Hospital. Over the years they became her second family. Judy also continued her civic volunteering and social activity when she returned to Memphis. In 2002 she was honored to be chosen as one of the 50 Women Who Make a Difference by Memphis Woman Magazine, she was a member of the Memphis Junior League, she volunteered for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and with Les Passess Inc. She was also a beloved member of the Grand Krew of RaMet of Carnival Memphis where she served as a Duchess in 2016, and she was a member of Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church where she was an active member of the Order of the Daughters of the King.
Judy’s family was always special to her. She took fun trips with her daughter starting with Christine’s time at the University of Arkansas. She enjoyed planning activities with her nieces and nephews like everybody’s favorite the annual Christmas Cookie decorating parties with Aunt Judy and Grandma. Judy had many important roles in her life as daughter, sister, mother, aunt but her favorite by far was Grandmother to Caroline or Gaga as she was known to Caroline.
Judy was a kind and caring person who never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew her. She will be missed.
