

MATTHEW “M.D.” HALL, 87, of Piperton, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, surrounded by his family. He was born January 20, 1926 in Ripley, MS to the late Walter E. and Mary Ella Wilhite Hall. He graduated from Burnsville High School in Burnsville, MS. He also attended Northwest Junior College in Senatobia, MS and Florence State College in Florence, AL after his military service. He enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Private 1st Class and proudly served during WWII in the 61st Signal Battalion, Company B stationed in the South Pacific. He continued to serve his country as Commander of VFW MS Post 3962 in Corinth, MS for 12 years. He was a retired Journeyman Wireman Electrician for Tennessee Valley Authority and also a 42 year member of the international Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He served in his local IBEW as an Executive Board Member. Mr. Hall was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Collierville. He relished the time he spent with his wife, children and grand-children. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ripple E. Nance. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bobbie J. Tuberville Hall of Collierville; two daughters, Patsy H. McMeans (David) of Collierville and Dionne H. Breazeale (Kevin) of Oxford, MS; three sons, Terry L. Hall (Sahar) of St. Clair, MI, Charles M. Hall of Jackson and Tony L. Hall of Collierville; a half brother, Honnell D. Hall of Burnsville, MS, 10 grandchildren, Natasha Myers and Spencer Hall of Mobile, AL, Adam and Alex Hall of St. Clair, MI, Tyson McMeans of Collierville, Charles and Diana Hall of Grand Rapids, MI, and Kade, Alexis and Brynn Breazeale of Oxford, MS; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 23 from 5-9 p.m. at the Collierville Funeral Home, with a reception provided. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m., Friday, May 24 in the T. Carl Rutledge Memorial Chapel of Collierville Funeral Home and a 11 a.m. committal service with military honors in the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
