My condolences to Phil’s family. We both worked for Champion Parts. Phil was one of the nicest people. Always smiling. Generous with his time and help. Always enjoyed hunting on Phil’s place in Hope, Ar., with my nephew Ellis.  Rest In Peace. 

My relationship with Phil goes back to 1993 when I had my first opportunity to meet and work with him, until I retired in 2020.  We crossed paths for many years while both of us were in our IP careers, at times working together directly on EHS initiatives, and for 5 years almost every day managing projects.  Phil's ability to maintain focus with a calm demeanor in the face of multiple and sometimes conflicting needs of project stakeholders was always noticed and appreciated.  I really remember the impromptu sit downs in our offices where we would get our act together and then just decompress, have a laugh, do the "have you heard" office gossip, and talk about his morning workout or my bike ride.  He was a good friend at work, and I'm going to miss him.

Phil has been a trusted friend for 25 years.  We shared some awesome times and some awful times together at work over years.  I am truly heartbroken for his family and friends, but know he is in the arms of his savior and is at peace.

Donna and I send our heartfelt condolences to Ann and the Slowiak family.  I have known Phil for the last 28 yrs, while working side by side these last seven..  Phil has been a trusted friend and colleague , always lifting those around him and staying calm, cool & collected, regardless of the challenge confronting us.  Phil would light one’s day up with his stories and his sense of wit.  I miss this and will miss Phil.  While my days have been dark since learning of Phil’s passing, I know his are bright with light perpetual shining upon him - Rest In Peace my brother🙏


I've been at IP for 20 years.  I did not work directly with Phil, but we were in the same department and floor.  I remember Phil at the coffee pot and we would talk about life in general.  We shared stories about grandkids.  He was so kind and always greeted me with a big smile.  He would always have time to spend sharing his wisdom on any subject.  After reading all the memories, it is no doubt Phil is resting in Jesus' arms now.  Praying comfort and peace for his entire family.  God bless!

Caroline and my heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to the Slowiak family.  I had the privilege to work with Phil for 5 years.    He was an exceptional project manager.  Phil was an extraordinary person inside and out. A kind and warm smile awaited anyone that came into contact with him.  I would purposely go by his office to say hi as he would always lift up my day.  I am a better person because of my friendship with Phil. Inside, it was easy to see that his faith and his family were very special to him.  He  will be missed greatly by everyone he touched.  Finally, I know that Phil is in Heaven now. 

I worked with Phil for over 20 years. He took difficult situations in stride and through his own conduct he thought me patience, tolerance and kindness to others. I will miss him.

When we moved to Collierville in 1996, "from Yankee Land", Phil was the one who stepped forward, made a friendship and helped us out with getting a "lay of the area".   We were grateful then and grateful now.

We were only in Collierville for four years and with job assignments and changes over the next 25 years - we always crossed paths.   Really enjoyed a few rides with Phil and Jeff when I was back in town for meetings in Memphis.

We recently discussed retirement - our grandchildren and laughed about how fast the years passed.   

Phil was always kind, decent, soft-spoken and someone that many of us counted on when the chips were down.  Phil was an example for all on the benefits of grace and gratitude.  

We are praying for the family and friends of Phil as we mourn his passing.

Phil was a great friend and a loyal Sunday school member all those years at Central church. Even after l left to pastor another church Phil and Ann would come to support me. Thank you for being there in my life it was better because you were in it. I know God said enter in thy good and faithful servant.

My husband & Phil are part of a group of college buddies.  We just spent last weekend sharing memories & Phil was fondly mentioned in several stories.  Our eldest is named after two of our college friends Philip (with one L, because that is always how Phil introduced himself) and Paul.  Phil will be missed.

My heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to the Slowiak family.  Phil was my boss shortly after International Paper acquired Union Camp back in 1999, and was such a great person to work with.  I remember him making business trips on his Harley, and loving every minute of it.  He was a kind and passionate person and will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.   

I met Phil when we lived on the fifteenth floor in the Manchester Hall dorm at Illinois State University in Normal Illinois.  There was a small group of 10 students from the 15th floor that became close friends.  That was about 50 years ago.  On the 22nd of July our group had a reunion at ISU.  Phil and Ann had planned to attend but Phil entered the hospital a few days earlier and had to cancel.  We toured our old floor in Manchester Hall.  Everyone found their old dorm room and we had a wonderful time reminiscing about our past.  We found Phil’s dorm room.  It was a single on the northwest corner, two doors from mine.  

Everyone loved Phil.  He was an easy-going guy, always cracking jokes.  I would often hear the Moody Blues playing in his room.  I would often join Phil and grew to love the Moody Blues too.  To this day every time I hear the Moody Blues I think of Phil.
