

Thelma Elizabeth Fisher Scott, 96, of Collierville, TN passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026. She was born in a log house in Gibson County near Neboville, Tennessee, the eldest child of Johnnie and Dulcenia Fisher. She graduated from Yorkville High School and then earned her BS degree in Education from Memphis State College in 1952 and in 1972 earned a Master of Education from Memphis State University. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Following graduation, she taught in elementary schools in Gibson County. She married Marvin Murray Scott in 1954 and relocated to Memphis TN. She was a long-time teacher at Berclair and Lester Elementary Schools. She was a charter member of the Beta Gamma Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma education sorority. Upon retirement from Memphis City Schools, she worked for Apple Computer coordinating the Apple Classroom of Tomorrow (ACOT) program sites across the USA.
Thelma was a long-time member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Memphis and was very active in the Disciples Sunday School Class. She transferred to Collierville United Methodist Church and participated in activities, especially the Crochet and Knitting Groups. She was an avid University of Memphis basketball fan attending over 1100 games in person between 1948 and 2024.
Thelma leaves son Murray Scott Jr (Susie) of Collierville TN, a brother, Johnnie Fisher, Jr of Leesburg, VA and numerous nieces and nephews across the USA. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Murray Scott, her sisters Janie Lou Putman, Dorothy Ann Logan, and Sylvia Jean Moore.
A private gravesite ceremony will be held in Yorkville, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the University of Memphis Foundation, PO Box 1000, Memphis, TN 38148-0001 and designated for the Thelma Fisher Scott Endowed Scholarship.
