I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Ms. Gail. Gail was a wonderful person and fantastic hair stylest. Gail always greeted me with a smile and friendly conversation when she cut my hair. Gail was my friend for over 35 years. I can still remember my first visit to Gail when she cut hair on Getwell in July of 1984 and my last August on 22nd 2019. I will miss seeing this special person. 


I first met Gail in the early 70's. After moving to Memphis from New Orleans I was looking for someone to cut my hair. Over the preceding 2 years I'd been letting it grow, but I was looking for work and thought I needed to be a little more presentable than a skydiving hippie from Louisiana. One of my skydiving friends, David Chilcutt, told me to try Gail. At that time she had a shop in Whitehaven. It only took that one time to be friends for life. I followed her from shop to shop as she and I both moved East. She and I shared the loves, births, and marriages of our offspring and their offspring. Each month she'd wash my hair, sit me in her chair and we began catching up while she would cut and cut and cut. Sometimes there wasn't much to say, but we always managed to share our thoughts, hopes and dreams. After leaving Memphis for the Florida Gulf Coast in 2016 I would still return to Memphis (on some pretense) really just to get my hair cut. We'd pick up right where we'd left off. I miss her. Not just the hair cutting, but her presence. RIP Gail. 

Gail has cut my hair for over 35 years. She was so precious. My heart is hurting for you all.

 I would get her because she would have her sticky notes all over her appointment book. I would be nervous and say what are you doing?! She would say well I've not gotten a new appointment book yet. I thought to myself...I am going to fix that for her. I would go buy her a new appointment book and take it by there and we would have a big laugh. 

She was NEVER sick, she was ALWAYS so faithful. In my 35 years, I bet there was no more the 3 times MAX did she ever call to have to move an appointment  - two of those times where in July and for this week (Sept)! 

She always ask me about my  family that she had kept up with over the years. I text her Friday night to check on her and was SO surprised when she called me back and talked over 10 minutes. I am SOOO thankful that I had that call with her!!! I will truly miss seeing her every 4 weeks!!! She loved her FAMILY! I feel like I know you guys! I just received the call this AM so I'm sad I was not able to make it to the service. I just noticed that she will be at the same cemetery as some of my family. My prayers will be with you all! You could never forget a girl like GAIL!!  

Gail was a wonderful lady.  She did my hair for more than 40 years, can't tell you how many styles, colors, etc. that we went through over those years.  She was not only my hair dresser but my friend.  I was shocked to hear of her passing because I was just in to get my hair cut a couple of weeks ago.  Although at that time, she was recovering from being in the hospital.  I know she is in a better place with our Lord and is not suffering.  I pray God gives her family comfort and strength during their time of grief.  Prayers for all of you.  I will always remember Gail.  

You were a blessing to all that had the privilege of knowing you. You were always there to listen no matter what the topic was. Gail we had many laughs together and shared a few tears.  You have touched my life in so many ways. Gail you will be truly missed. I am forever grateful for knowing you.

Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by her father, Archie Jennings and her step-father, James Foster.
