Bob Hicks, 72, of Collierville, passed away after an extended illness at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House surrounded by his family on May 31, 2015. Born August 1, 1942, to the late Finis Garrett Hicks, Sr. and Sarah Underwood Hicks, Bob was a native of Jackson, TN. He graduated from Beech Bluff High School in 1960 and proudly served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1964, where he was stationed at Ft. Richardson in Anchorage, AK, and Ft. Ord in Monterrey, CA. He graduated from West TN Business College and started to work for Colonial Bakery in 1964. During his forty year career with Colonial, Bob worked as an accountant in their offices in Jackson, TN, Owensboro, KY, and Memphis, TN. Bob and his bride, the former Rebecca Ann “Becky” Stanfill, met at West TN Business College in 1964 and were married at Cotton Grove Baptist Church on February 13, 1966. Bob and Becky welcomed their only child and “favorite son”, Brian, on November 7, 1972. Over the years, Bob and Becky were active members of Englewood Baptist Church in Jackson, Broadmoor Baptist Church in Memphis, and Collierville First Baptist Church. Bob was a faithful and loving husband and an ever-present and attentive daddy and Papaw. Bob enjoyed southern gospel music and tending to his lawn, and he treasured time with his family and friends, whether it be at holiday gatherings or church events, at ballgames, taking trips, or just enjoying a meal. He had a quiet yet confident faith that was evident to all, especially as he bravely battled cancer over the years. He never complained and never gave up. He was appreciative of the help and support he received from family and friends, namely his wife and main “nurse”, Becky, along with neighbors and those in the Faith Builders Bible Fellowship Class at Collierville First Baptist Church who were truly the hands and feet of Jesus to him. Bob is survived by his wife of 49 years, Becky Stanfill Hicks; son and daughter in-law, Brian and Jennifer Hicks and grandchildren, Ben and Abby Hicks, of Piperton, TN; brother, Finis Garrett “Buddy” Hicks, Jr. (Connie) of Jackson, TN; sisters Laura McGarrity of Rutherford, TN, and Brenda Sutton (Larry) of Milan, TN. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Memphis Area Fellowship of Christian Athletes (www.memphisfca.org) or Collierville First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5:30-8:30 PM Tuesday, June 2, 2015 and again on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 from 12:00PM until the service begins at 1:30PM, all at Collierville First Baptist Church, 830 New Byhalia Rd. Collierville, TN 38017. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.
