He was 66 years old. He is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa Finnegan (nee Moos); his daughters: Teresa (Noah) and Megan (Eric); his siblings: Paul (Maureen), Mary (Keith), and Patricia (Frank); his sister-in-law, Jean (Al); half of the “Cousins Finnegan” (Frank); his co-star from the movie Invincible, Mark Wahlberg; and his cat, Lilly. John also leaves behind his nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
John was born in Philadelphia on September 21, 1953. He grew up in Collingswood and graduated from Paul VI High School in 1971. He played basketball at Rutgers-Camden before graduating with his bachelor’s degree from Glassboro State College. He worked as a letter carrier for the USPS for 34 years and was a faithful union member. He retired in 2018.
John and Teresa met at Kaminski’s. They were married on October 27, 1979 at St. John’s Church in Collingswood and they raised their family in Cherry Hill. John loved Philadelphia sports and witnessed two Phillies’ World Series victories, two 76ers’ Championships, and three triumphant Super Bowls (as he liked to say, the first two were when his daughters were born). In retirement, he was a fixture on LBI and at local high school girls’ and boys’ basketball games. John was selfless and treated everyone he met with kindness and respect. He loved his life and all the family and friends that filled it. He joins his mother, father, brother Patrick, and daughter Patricia in heaven to cheer for his two favorite teams: the Eagles and whoever’s playing Dallas.
