Peter was born on June 1, 1959, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Andre Peter Gambucci and Gloria (Boesche) Gambucci. He was the second of five children: his oldest sister, Kristine Gambucci (deceased); his brother, Gino Gambucci; and his twin sisters, Laura Gambucci and Lisa (Gambucci) Sepessy.
Growing up in Colorado Springs, Peter attended St. Mary’s High School, where he was active in wrestling and had a passion for art. He absolutely adored his mother and had a special bond with his younger sisters—serving as their protector and playmate. He taught them how to play football, baseball, and how to wrestle. Peter had a deep love for the outdoors—he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and even snake catching. In high school, his love for reptiles led to a mischievous moment when he sold snakes out of his locker, only to be suspended when they escaped through the vents.
Peter was also deeply proud of his father, who competed in the 1952 Olympics in Oslo and brought home a silver medal in hockey—leaving Peter with big shoes to fill and a legacy to admire.
In his adult life, Peter married LeeAnn (Martinez) Gambucci and together they had three daughters: Lauren (Gambucci) Hakala, Jordan Gambucci, and Gabrielle Gambucci. After 14 years of marriage, they divorced, and Peter later married Michelle Starr, with whom he had his fourth and final child—a son, Tristan Starr. All of Peter’s children reside in Colorado Springs, CO.
Peter was an animated, funny, and outgoing man who brought light and laughter wherever he went. He was a loving father and uncle who found joy in hunting, fishing, and any outdoor adventure with his children and nephews. Known for his storytelling, he never missed a chance to brag about his kids. At any sports event, Pete was unmistakable—cheering loudly in one of his signature bright salmon-colored shirts. He was generous with his time and always ready to lend a helping hand, no questions asked.
A skilled contractor, Peter had a unique eye for restoration and could uncover the beauty in any old building. He was also a talented cook with a wide range of culinary skills that impressed family and friends alike.
Peter is survived by his daughter Lauren (Gambucci) Hakala, her husband James Hakala, and their two children, Ella and Cash; his daughter Jordan Gambucci; his daughter Gabrielle Gambucci and her children, Izayah and Zoee; and his son Tristan Starr. His nephews; Austin and Gunnar Fisk.
He was preceded in death by his beloved sister Kristine Gambucci and his parents, Andre Peter Gambucci and Gloria Gambucci.
A Celebration of Life will be held later this year.
