A Life of Courage
Andie passed away on Monday, 26 January, at the age of 43. He was a man of immense courage who lived with PTSD, a battle he fought with the same bravery and integrity that defined his entire life. Though he ultimately succumbed to the weight of this illness, we remember him not for his struggle but for the profound light and warmth he brought into our lives every single day.
His Early Journey
Andie was born on June 19, 1982, in Sumner, Iowa, to Darla and Leslie Huck. Growing up in an Army family, his world was vast and full of love; he spent his youth in Germany, Bahrain, Denmark, and various stateside locations. He was naturally loved by all of his classmates and graduated from Vicenza High School in 2001. Throughout his youth, he was a talented wrestler and a gifted musician who loved playing guitar in various garage bands and composing his own music.
Service and Adventure
He enrolled at the University of Texas - San Antonio to study sound engineering but joined the Air Force after September 11, 2001. He enlisted as an Arabic Linguist and spent several years supporting the War on Terror as a linguist and intelligence analyst. While attending the University of Texas - Austin in 2006, he met Mona Min. They fell in love, married in 2008, and received their Air Force commissions together, becoming Intelligence Officers. Their life was an adventure: they lived in Okinawa and became scuba diving junkies, hiked the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal, and dove with sharks in the Great Barrier Reef. And in 2015, they welcomed their son, Anderson Joonyoung Huck, into the world.
A Family United
As a family, Andie, Mona, and Anderson loved spending time together, especially outside—hiking, camping with their camping family, traveling, and attending music festivals. Andie earned his purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and shared this passion with Anderson. He taught the kids' classes and took pride in teaching Anderson everything he knew about his specialty: takedowns.
After retiring from the Air Force, the family moved from San Antonio to Colorado to fulfill a dream of living by the mountains and Ponderosa pines. Andie jumped into community life as a Den Leader with Pack 70 and took ski lessons in a vain attempt to keep up with Anderson. He loved Colorado deeply and, even in a short time, it became home.
Family
Andie is survived by his wife, Mona Min, and his son, Anderson Huck. He is also survived by his parents, Darla and Leslie Huck; his brother, Leslie Huck; his sister, Heidi Huck; his mother-in-law, Amie Min; his brothers-in-law, David Cook and Ben Min; and his beloved nieces, Penelope and Helena.
Andie leaves behind a wide circle of friends who leaned on his strength and were better for his quiet generosity. His presence was a bright light in the lives of many, and that influence remains with us.
The Best Man, Dad, and Friend
To those who knew him, Andie was, quite simply, the best of us. To Anderson, he was a hero and an amazing, engaged, and loving father To Mona, he was the ultimate best friend and life partner. He had a rare gift for making everyone feel seen and valued. He lived for his family, and while his absence is profound, the depth of the love he gave us will remain with us forever.
