Betty was born on July 27, 1930, in Harlan County, Kentucky to David and Mary Stanton. She was the fifth born of thirteen children. Growing up in rural eastern Kentucky, she was a tom-boy who loved playing outdoors in the Appalachian Mountains. A favorite childhood memory she often shared was swinging across a creek on a vine with her best friend.

They settled down in Taylor, Michigan, where they welcomed their only child, Douglas Alexander Foisie on June 16, 1963. Betty was a dedicated wife and mother for many years in Michigan where she created the ideal loving home for her family.
In 2006, Betty moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado to live with her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. In 2016, she entered Mount Saint Francis Nursing Center where she received loving care (including weekly visits from the beloved family dog “Pudgie,” along with McDonald’s cheeseburgers and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups) until her passing.
