Bonnie was born on March 15, 1944 in La Junta, Colorado to Willard and Dorothy Barks. She grew up in Las Animas Colorado where she met her husband of 55 years, Jim Hogue. Bonnie and Jim were married in Las Animas in 1961. They had a life filled with loads of travel and camping adventures up until his death in 2014.
Bonnie loved art, photography, visiting zoos, travelling, camping and nature. She instilled her love for all of it in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to teach us what she knew about plants and wildlife. All adventures were teaching opportunities for her. Traditional holidays were also very important to her as she enjoyed being surrounded by her family. As she would say she loved us “BEYOND INFINITY.” She graduated with an Associate’s degree (Magna Cum Laude) from Otero Junior College and a Bachelor’s degree from CSU Pueblo. She was a bookkeeper for Jim’s businesses and for Robertson Lawn Care for many years.
Bonnie had two brothers who preceded her in death. Her elder brother was Bill Barks and the younger was Audrey Barks.
Bonnie leaves behind her three daughters and son-in-law: Twila & Mike Humphrey, Kathleen Hogue and Eileen Hogue. She has a fourth, four-legged daughter named Bella. She also had a macaw named Paco who loved his “Mama!”
Her grandchildren are Melinda & Danny Hayden, Joseph Pierce III & Crystal Pagette Pierce, Christopher & Tabitha Cowart, Sean Quigley & Bernadette Urioste-Quigley, Courtney & Dustin Shipley, Colin & Jewel Heter, and Matthew Hogue & Tabitha Baladez.
Her great-grandchildren are Blake Puckett, Makayla Puckett, Lilly Hayden, Kendall Cowart, Graham Cowart, Victoria Quigley, Olivia Quigley, Phoenix Shipley and Presley Shipley. Along with several four-legged and furry great-grand-dogs and cats that she enjoyed visiting with.
Great-grandchild Makayla is expecting Bonnie’s first great-great grandchild.
A celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held at the Official Bent County Las Animas Cemetery District on a future date. The updated information will be made available in the online obituary.
In lieu of flowers, Bonnie requested donations be made to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (cmzoo.org)-one of her favorite places.
