Carlene Ballou Musser peacefully and expectantly passed into the welcoming hands of her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 18, 2012, after celebrating her life with her family over the past several days.
She was born in Sterling City, Texas, in 1931, graduated from Albuquerque, NM, High School in 1948, and graduated from Baylor University, Waco, Texas, in 1952 with a degree in Home Economics. The summer of 1951 found the attractive redhead catching the eye of Jack Musser, who had begun his teaching career in Nederland, Colorado. They both worked at the Chalet Ranch in Estes Park; Jack as the desk clerk, and Carlene as a waitress. Although he was both a Yankee and a Methodist, Carlene’s family eventually agreed to his proposal for marriage, and they just celebrated 60 years of faithful and loving marriage in June.
After settling in Colorado Springs in 1960, Carlene was a homemaker and devoted mother to their only son Mark. She was active at First Presbyterian Church, and especially enjoyed singing in the Women’s Chorus. She later taught 4th grade at Edison Elementary School for 20 years. After Carlene and Jack both retired from teaching, they enjoyed travelling the world on many unique and exciting adventures. Her cupcakes were anticipated and cherished by her 3 loving grandsons. She was most proud of the accomplishments, character and integrity of those 3 grandsons.
She is survived by her loving husband Jack, of Colorado Springs, her son Mark, who will both miss her crisp memory, dry wit, and unconditional love; grandson USAF Captain Matthew Musser, and his wife, USAF Captain Morgan Musser; grandson USAF 1st Lt. Andrew Musser (recently returned from tour of duty); grandson Nathanael Musser, senior at University of Wyoming, studying philosophy; brother Rev. William Ballou and his wife Avonnell, of Tyler, Texas.
A visitation is planned for Tuesday, October 23, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Swan-Law Funeral Directors. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at The Inn at Garden Plaza, 2520 International Circle, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that gifts be made to the Colorado Springs First Presbyterian Church Deacons Fund.
