David Glenn Smith

Dave was born on June 12, 1962, at RAF Bentwaters, England, to Glenn and Norma Smith. He was their only child. The family moved back to the United States and lived in Indiana, where Dave graduated from High School. In college, he majored in Mass Communications at Indiana University - Purdue University, Indianapolis. Dave and his parents eventually settled in Colorado Springs. Even though Dave enjoyed traveling around the world, he considered Colorado his permanent home and would always miss the state when his work took him elsewhere.

After college, Dave began working in TV News at KJCT in Grand Junction, Colorado, followed by KOAA in Colorado Springs and then KAKE in Kansas. He then became a freelance news photojournalist. Dave traveled the world working for national network news and other organizations. Dave lived and worked for over a year in Los Angeles, California, covering the O.J. Simpson trial for NBC News. He received recognition for his photojournalism and was highly respected by those in the industry who knew him.

Dave was also an accomplished still photographer, incorporating his love of the outdoors and nature into his striking and extensive photography. His work was sold in galleries and appeared in publications and on the Internet. Dave’s love of the outdoors motivated him to make the climb to Kala Patthar, the Mount Everest base camp in Nepal.

Dave was preceded in death by both of his parents, but leaves behind many friends who will deeply miss his quiet, calm presence and witty sense of humor.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 22 at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colorado Springs, CO. A Rosary service will precede the Mass at 9:30 a.m. A gathering will take place after the Mass in the Parish Center of Sacred Heart, followed by a graveside service in Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs, at 2:00 p.m.
