Edna Marie Barden of Ellicott, Colorado was born February 6th, 1940 in Colorado Springs to Alvin R. and Gladys L. Simshauser. She was raised on the family ranch, where she spent her days with her favorite horse Rusty. During her childhood she attended Ellicott Schools, raised longhorn cattle, and helped her dad do stucco work. On October 31st, 1955 she married Gus Barden in Taos, New Mexico. Gus and Edna settled down in Colorado Springs, where they raised their two sons Steve and Bret. After a few years, they moved their young family back to the Ranch Edna grew up on in Ellicott. Edna worked throughout El Paso County as a realtor for over 10 years. After retiring she enjoyed traveling in their motorhome to states west of the Mississippi, Mexico, and Canada. Quartzsite, Arizona was one of her favorite spots to travel to during the winter months. Edna loved doing puzzles, crosswords, and watching horse racing such as the Kentucky Derby and Preakness States. She is survived by husband of 68 years Gus, Brother Dale Simshauser, Sister Verda Newport, sons Steve Barden and Bret Barden, 2 grandsons, and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harold and sisters Wyvonna and Aldene. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting a donation be made to Compassus Hospice Care.
