

Erma Jean Tipton passed away at home in Colorado Springs August 29, 2022. Jeanie was a true Colorado Springs native. She was born the second child to Wayne and Lily (Ververs) Orcutt at the home of her great aunt on the west side of Colorado Springs during the Great Depression. She was proud of her homestead heritage and country roots.
Jeanie attended Helen Hunt Elementary, a one room school house in Kutch, Colorado during the war, South Junior High School and Colorado Springs High School (Palmer High School). She married Alvin Tipton on January 21, 1951. They were married for 62 years and had two daughters, Sandra and Candice. Jeanie loved gardening, canning, quilting, reading and playing cards, and she loved her John Deere tractor. But most of all she loved her family. She cooked countless meals and even more snickerdoodles. She was a fantastic mother, beloved and fun grandma and a sweet “Grandma Jean-Jean” to her great grandchildren.
Erma Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Al in 2013, and her beloved daughter Candice Tipton Carroll in 2017. Jeanie is survived by her daughter Sandra Ryherd, her son-in-law David Carroll and sister Glenda Dinsmore. She’s also survived by four grandchildren: Gina Mahoney, Andrea Ryherd, Lance Ryherd and Ashley Carroll Bergland. “Jean-Jean” is also survived by great grandchildren Jacob and Nicole Christensen, Ayrika, Gabriel and Andreas Yates, Mia Edwards and Elias Ryherd.
A funeral will take place September 6, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs, Colorado. The burial is at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Expressway,
Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903. She will be laid to rest alongside five generations.
