Gary was a talented artist, poet, musician, dancer and cook. He was affectionate and sentimental and loved making memories with family, especially his daughter’s Shalene and Cali, also affectionately known as Shay-bay and Bugger-butt. He shared special memories with his grandson Rylan who loved “sitting on the porch chucking rocks” with grandpa. Gary was born to be a girl dad and loved to style his daughters hair, play dolls, sing to them, teach them how to cook and watch movies with them. He was a huge movie buff and had a knack for imitating movie lines to make people laugh. Some of his favorites, “Get to the Chopper” ~ Predator and “Hey You Guys” ~ Goonies. Gary loved his baggy clothes, sweatshirts and sweatpants but hated his “chicken legs”! He had a deep love for animals, especially fish, turtles and his cat, Bella. He was often referred to as the life of the party bringing laughter and joy into gatherings with his smile, sense of humor and friendly nature. His friendly demeanor lit up rooms, making others feel welcome and included. His comfort with emotions allowed him to be there for others and he is known for offering hugs and touching gestures, which helped mend hearts and provided comfort to those in need. His empathetic nature created a safe space for loved ones to share their feelings.
Gary would hope we all remember to help someone in need, offer compassion, consider the less fortunate, pray for those who are in need, forgive first and often, and give those you love hugs, lots of hugs; not sideways effortless one second hugs, but great big pick you up off the floor hugs! Leave a legacy of love, humor and kindness.
Gary’s favorite Bible Verses:
Psalms 62:2 “Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.”
John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Gary is survived by his beloved daughters, Shalene and Cali, grandsons Rylan and Leighton, soon to be son in law Guy, father Marty, mother Pam, stepfather Michael, stepmother Loretta, sister Aimee, brother-in-law Travis, nephew’s Christian and Aaron, Grandmother Helen, numerous aunts and uncles and cousins.
